Problem Description
BackupEDGE prompts for volume 2 during verify, when none existed.

Cause

This problem has been traced to an error in the SCO tape device driver. It was introduced in the early releases of Open Server 5.0.0. The error falsely reports a media error during a read as an EOF marker, therefore causing edge to prompt for a second volume.

Solution
SCO has provided an update to the SCSI tape driver in 5.0.5 and 5.0.4 OpenServer to fix problems resulting in BackupEDGE receiving and EOT, or End Of Tape message when it shouldn't.

The driver and installation instructions may be found at

ftp://ftp.microlite.com/pub/SCO_Stp_Driver_Fix

The readme.txt instruction file is critical to a successful installation.

The error condition is still a hard I/O read error and should be treated as such. Common remedies are to try new tapes, clean the tape heads, check cabling and termination.
