Problem Description
Tape drive default behavior is different in BackupEDGE 3.x from older releases
Cause
BackupEDGE 3.0 supports multiple archives per tape. This behavior, coupled with a default retention time of 1 week, can cause problems if tapes are left in for multiple days; they may fill, or create a scenario where retention times cannot be met and automatic recycling of archives is not possible.
Solution
Solution 1 is to reduce the Retention: time in the Notify/Advanced section of the Schedule to "1 Days". This will allow the tape to be overwritten if left in overnight, while still allowing a Schedule with more than one Backup Domain included to archive all domains.

Solution 2 is to reduce the Retention: time in the Notify/Advanced section of the Schedule to "2 Days" or "3 Days". This will allow the tape to be append an archive if accidentally left in overnight, but will erase all the archives and start at beginning of tape (BOT) if the tape has been removed for 2 (or 3) days. It will also still allow a Schedule with more than one Backup Domain included to archive all domains.

Solution 3 is to go into Define Resources and uncheck "Multiple Archives", plus set Retention: in the Notify/Advanced Schedule to "0 Days". This will exactly emulate 2.x behavior, i.e. tapes may always be overwritten immediately, and only one archive per tape (and one Domain Per Schedule).

Notes
Please see the BackupEDGE User Guide for additional infomration on multiple archives and retention times for each possible Resource type.

Starting with BackupEDGE 03.00.03 build 4, default tape drive behavior will be set to "no multiple archive" plus "1 Days" retention to emulate 2.x default behavior.
