BackupEDGE 01.01.0x for OpenServer 5/ RecoverEDGE 2

Problem

What is the proper procedure for performing a root (/) filesystem only restore through RecoverEDGE 2?

Cause

If the boot diskettes were created on a system on which OpenServer 5 was installed via the "fresh install method", then two filesystems must be restored: root (/) and boot (/boot). The real 'boot' and 'unix' programs are stored in the boot filesystem whereas the symbolic links to these programs are stored in the root filesystem. One must restore both filesystems or the operating system will be unbootable after restore.

If the boot diskettes were created on a system on which OpenServer 5 was installed via the "upgrade" method, then there is no boot filesystem to be restored; the 'boot' and 'unix' programs reside in the root filesystem.

Solution

To restore the root and boot (if appropriate) filesystems through the RecoverEDGE 2 menu, perform the following:
         1.  Invoke Utilities->Editor
         2. Load the file RE2.MOUNTLIST. This file contains a list of
the filesystems to be mounted during restore. Remove any
entries that pertain to filesystems OTHER THAN root (/) or
boot (/boot) and save these changes.
         3. Load the file RE2.EXCLIST. This file contains a listing of
the directories which will be excluded during restore. Add
an entry for any directories that would reside outside of
             the root or boot filesystems.
         4. For example, if filesystems exist on the system called /u
and /u2, it would be necessary to exclude the /u and /u2
directories on tape from being restored, because the
             corresponding filesystems are not mounted.
To do so, edit the file and add the following lines:

               Exclude /u
               Exclude /u2

After saving the changes to the file, perform Restore->
Restore All Filesystems -> and then continue with the restore
operation as specified in the manual.
If no /boot filesystem should be created, then performing a root-only restore without any of the above steps would also work.
