BackupEDGE prompts for volume 2 during verify, when none existed.

Release

BackupEDGE 01.01.06 for Open Server 5.0.x

Problem

BackupEDGE prompts for volume 2 during verify, when none existed.

Cause

This problem has been traced to an error in the SCO tape device driver. It was introduced in the early releases of Open Server 5.0.0. The error falsely reports a media error during a read as an EOF marker, therefore causing edge to prompt for a second volume.

Solution

SCO will bug report this and offer a correction in a later release. This will only correct the error reporting, not the media error. The error condition is still a hard I/O read error and should be treated as such. Common remedies are to try new tapes, clean the tape heads, check cabling and termination.
