Problem

I have a tape cartridge that does not appear on the list of selections under edge.config.

Cause

With the constantly changing tape cartridge technologies, the shell script designers can only provide a list of the more popular cartridges.

Solution

The user has a couple options to use. Since BackupEDGE does not supply a driver for the tape drives, the information that is provided by edge.config is used by the BackupEDGE scripts to build a command line. You can choose a cartridge that has an uncompressed native capacity that is close to the cartridge you are actually using. By saving this setting you can get the capacity of the cartridge selected only if your native cartridge capacity is larger.

Secondly, you can add your data cartridge to the list of cartridges found under edge.config. When in edge.config, select option 'Q' Add/Change/Delete devices. Remember to calculate your volume size to be an even divisor of your block factor. Most importantly, set the Device Can Seek to 'NO'.
