Backups to a remote tape drive produces "Flushing Network Buffers! ...", followed by a system crash.

Release

BackupEDGE (Release 01.01.00)

Problem

When I try to run a backup to a remote tape drive, I get the message: "Flushing Network Buffers! ..." between volumes. The system then hangs.

Cause

Most likely Double Buffering is turned on. Double Buffering is not meant to be used with network backups. The problem lies in the fact that 64 k of data is being sent through an 8 k pipe, thus causing a bottleneck.

Solution

Turn off Double Buffering from the menu or eliminate the 'S' option from the command line.
