This may initially be remedied by cleaning the tape drive or the introduction of
new media into the backup routine.
If this offers no relief, turn off indexing and attempt to verify the tape again. If this succeeds, run the following command from the command line.
/usr/lib/edge/bin/edge.index -b {block factor} -d {tape device}
