Problem Description
My BackupEDGE backup job failed with the message Erase / Reten / Etc. Command Failed. Exit Status 31.
Cause
This is due to the tape drive not supporting a Rewind command as issued by BackupEDGE
Solution
The current solution is to edit the file /usr/lib/edge/config/devices.def. Find your tape drive header (usually named tape0) and delete the line NRNODE =. Save the change and this should remedy the problem.
