RecoverEDGE Reports "Incompatible Kernel Version"

Keywords

BackupEDGE, UnixWare 7.1, RecoverEDGE, linking, network, kernel

Release

    BackupEDGE 01.01.07 for UnixWare 7.1

Problem

RecoverEDGE errors out of boot diskette creation with "Incompatible Kernel Version".

Cause

RecoverEDGE mistakenly misidentifies the network adaptor in some cases.  This problem has been reported to Microlite Development and will be fixed shortly.  Please check our website often.

Solution

Edit the file /recoverEDGE.rc .  Change the line

    NETWORK Yes

    to

    NETWORK No

This will disable network recovery (both non-local tape drives and remote recovery).  You will also need to include the module "ipc" in the kernel build manually, as per these instructions.

This problem will be fixed (and network support enabled on systems that suffer from it) in the next build of RecoverEDGE.  Please check our website often for updates.
