Microlite and Iomega Create Data Storage Revolution on
SCO® UNIX®

ALIQUIPPA, PA -- (BUSINESS WIRE) -- May 19, 2004 -- Microlite Corporation now supports the new Iomega® REV™ drive for backup and disaster recovery storage on SCO OpenServer™ 5 and SCO UnixWare® 7 operating systems.

The new Iomega REV drive provides 35GB (uncompressed) to 90GB (compressed) of high performance storage in a removable disk small enough to fit in a shirt pocket. It combines the capacity and features of tape with the speed and ease of use of a hard drive. Microlite BackupEDGE detects and supports the Iomega REV drive on SCO UNIX operating systems with no special device drivers required.

"Our partners are always looking for more cost effective ways to archive their clients' critical data," said Erik Hughes, Director of Product Management for The SCO Group. "Microlite's support for REV products on SCO UNIX provides an additional layer of flexibility when it comes to archiving data and adhering to the growing number of regulations for data retention and protection."

"BackupEDGE enables the use of the REV drive for reliable backup and disaster recovery at a breakthrough price on SCO operating systems," said Brian Reeves, Product Manager for REV technology at Iomega. "Microlite continues to open new markets for this exciting new REV technology."

"Imagine storing 35-90GB of data per media at less than half the cost of a comparable capacity tape drive, and having access to any single file to begin a restore starting within less than a second." said Tom Podnar, President of Microlite Corporation. "That's just part of the REV story."

BackupEDGE 2.0 has features that allow SCO users to leverage Iomega's REV drive as a reliable storage medium…

  • Compression. The improved, standards-based compression in BackupEDGE was engineered just for devices like the REV drive, outperforming other products and doubling or in some cases even tripling the net capacity of the media
  • Verification. Both bit-level verify and the on-archive checksum verification built into the BackupEDGE format ensures that archive integrity is intact, both at backup time and months or even years later.
  • Strong Encryption (optional). Provides maximum protection for those planning strategies for HIPAA, PIPEDA or SB 1386 compliance, or just wanting to better secure their data
  • Instant File Restore. Average seek time to any file on a REV disk is under a second.
  • Disaster Recovery. REV drive backups can be set to boot directly into RecoverEDGE smart disaster recovery for safe, automated restore from catastrophic system failure or other data loss, without requiring operating system re-installation.
