Microlite Announces OBDR (One Button Disaster Recovery) Support for SCO OpenServer 5, Caldera Open UNIX 8
Santa Cruz CA (August 20, 2001)
-- Microlite Corporation announced at Caldera Forum 2001 that its newly enhanced version of BackupEDGE
fully supports Hewlett Packard tape drives using OBDR (One Button Disaster Recovery) technology under the SCO OpenServer 5 and Caldera® Open UNIX® 8 operating environments. BackupEDGE SS includes a crash recovery component for Linux, Open UNIX 8 (formerly UnixWare 7) and OpenServer 5 systems called RecoverEDGE. RecoverEDGE
with OBDR support expands the traditional "boot floppy + backup tape" crash recovery model by combining both backup data and crash recovery information on each full system tape backup. The user may boot directly from the OBDR tape drive into the
RecoverEDGE crash recovery menu system in the event of a data catastrophe. "OBDR support has proven to be a big hit in our Linux and UnixWare 7 products.
" said Tom Podnar, president of Microlite Corporation. "Clients like the fact that they don't have to go searching for old, possibly outdated boot floppies or CD-ROMs when they have to do a system re-build.
Each nightly backup contains the functional equivalent of a set of boot media with our RecoverEDGE crash recovery menu system. This release of BackupEDGE SS
brings OBDR capability to the world's largest installed base of UNIX operating systems running on the Intel platform." Availability
BackupEDGE SS, including RecoverEDGE
with OBDR support, is scheduled to ship on August 28, 2001. Fully functional evaluation copies are now available from the Microlite Corporation web site at http://www.microlite.com/. About BackupEDGE SS
BackupEDGE SS is enhanced backup and disaster recovery software
for UNIX systems. It is also available for all of the most popular Intel based Linux releases, including Caldera OpenLinux® Workstation and OpenLinux Server, Red Hat Linux, SuSE Linux, and Mandrake Linux. It
provides many features and benefits not available in other products in its class, including low level tape device and autochanger support, high speed retrieval of stored files, and support for advanced industry
initiatives such as TapeAlert diagnostics. CD-Recordable/ReWritable and DVD-RAM devices may also be used. Storage devices may be attached to the local system or to any UNIX or Linux system on the network.
About RecoverEDGE RecoverEDGE
is enhanced disaster recovery software for Linux, OpenServer 5, Open UNIX 8, and UnixWare 7 systems. It can perform bare-metal recovery of crashed systems without the necessity of re-installing the operating system before restoring data files. In addition to traditional boot floppies,
RecoverEDGE also supports the creation of CD-Recordable/ReWritable and DVD-RAM boot media and bootable backups, as well as OBDR bootable backup tapes. All bootable media have network and modem based
remote access capabilities and are capable of restoring systems from remotely attached storage devices. About Microlite Corporation Microlite Corporation has been serving the Unix community
since 1983, and has been producing high-quality backup and crash recovery software since 1987. BackupEDGE SS is available worldwide from finer UNIX and Linux resellers and distributors. For more information, visit http://www.microlite.com/
