Status of BackupEDGE 02.02.00 Web Release

BackupEDGE 02.02.00 for Intel IA32 / EM64T / AMD64 /AIX platforms is currently in Build 5 .for Linux 2.6 systems, and build 4 for other platforms. If you have downloaded a previous release/build, it is strongly recommended that you replace it with the most recent version. More about version and build numbers can be found here.

If you encounter a problem with any part of 02.02.00 (or would simply like to give us feedback on it) please don't hesitate to email support@microlite.com with your problems, comments, or suggestions.

About Version and Build Numbers

The "version number" of a BackupEDGE distribution indicates what major features are present in that distribution. For example, 01.02.00 supported DVD-RAM backups. As stated elsewhere, as long as the first two digits in the version number are the same, it is a free update. As such, it can be installed without relicensing. For example, 02.00.xx or 02.01.0x products may be upgraded to 02.02.xx by installing 02.02.xx over them. However, going from 01.01.08 to 02.02.00 requires a new license. Going from any 01.0x.0x release to any 02.xx.xx requires a new license.

This assumes that your operating system has not changed. If you have changed your operating system, i.e. from Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, or from SCO OpenServer 5.0.6 to SCO OpenServer 5.0.7, or any other combination, an upgrade license is must be purchased. See our Updates / Upgrades page for more information on when updates are free and ugrade charges apply.

Some may notice that this is slightly different than our previous upgrade policy. In particular, the 01.01.xx series could not be upgraded to 01.02.xx without purchasing a new serial number. This policy was changed with the introduction of BackupEDGE 2.1 (02.01.xx) to allow BackupEDGE 2.0 (02.00.xx) customers to install BackupEDGE 2.1 or BackupEDGE 2.2 without requiring a new serial number.

The "build level" of a BackupEDGE distribution indicates the number of updates to the product since its initial release at this version number. These upgrades are usually to fix bugs, improve the product in minor (e.g., cosmetic) ways, add support for new operating system versions, and so on. The initial release of a version is "build 1".

It is not the case that all platforms will be on the same build level at the same time. For example, if a software change affects a Linux distribution, the AIX distribution might not be updated. However, it is meaningful to compare build levels; it is not the case that a build level will have different features for different operating systems (excluding, of course features which are not applicable because of operating system differences). Every distribution at a given build level has the same patches applied, but not all distributions will be packaged at each build level if that build level doesn't change anything that applies to the operating system(s) on which the distribution runs.

Our website always maintains the highest (most recent) build for every operating system. The version number is available in the version.txt file in the distribution directory on our ftp site, or on HTML downloads pages from our website.
