Microlite Corporation assisted The SCO Group during the development of the "wd" IDE/ATAPI driver which allowed writable CD/DVD support
for OpenServer 5.0.7.The SCO Group has recently updated this driver, and has now also made it available for OpenServer 5.0.6. This means that inexpensive ATAPI CD and DVD drives are now usable for both
backups and for boot/recovery media under both 5.0.6 and 5.0.7. Microlite has
added support for this new driver in both our BackupEDGE 2.0 products and for our older BackupEDGE SS 01.02.04 products.
Pre-Requisites From Microlite You must be running BackupEDGE 2.0 release 02.00.01 build 6 or later, or BackupEDGE SS release 01.02.04 build 3 or later. Use your auto updater or go to the
Downloads
page on the Microlite Web Site. 01.02.0x users, go to the ftp site. From The SCO Group
You must download and install the new "wd" driver from the SCO ftp site
ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/drivers/OSR506/btld/wdsupp. Install the supplement, re-link and reboot.
After installing the SCO driver and appropriate BackupEDGE release, you must delete and re-detect your optical devices from within
edgemenu to enable writing.
BackgroundBackupEDGE
is very smart about not attempting an ATAPI CD or a DVD write when doing so could harm a system. Prior to the release of this new driver from The SCO Group, attempting to probe or write to the ATAPI bus through the wd and CD drivers on a 5.0.6 (or earlier) system could cause a system lockup. With these new builds,
BackupEDGE checks both the operating system version and the wd driver version before enabling ATAPI probing and writing. |
